December 2015 JANCIS ROBINSON recommended Verus's Pinot Gris 2013– Financial Times, 11.December 2015

»You know Pinot Grigio? Verus Pinot Gris 2013 Slovenia is quite unlike most of them. Unlike basic Pinot Grigio, it is chock-full of flavour with the perfumed breadth of an Alsace Pinot Gris but has the crisp freshness of the best Pinot Grigio of Friuli in north-east Italy and is bone dry.«

April 2015 FIONA BECKETT – MATCHING FOOD & WINE, WINE FINDS – Verus Riesling 2013, 5 April 2015

»I’ve been dithering about which of the Verus range to recommend as my wine of the week because frankly they’re all delicious but if you haven’t tried them before the riesling is a good starting point. Although it’s dry(ish) it has a floral character I haven’t quite come across anywhere else. I’m wondering if it’s a special Slovenian strain of the variety that makes it especially charming. Or maybe it’s just the ripeness (at 13% it’s relatively high in alcohol for a riesling.) It would make the perfect aperitif but would also be lovely with light food like a chicken or prawn salad.«

December 2012 Jancis Robinson recommended Verus's Furmint 2011 among TOP 25 festive white wines – Financial Times, 14.12.2012

»Tokaj’s most important grape but grown in Slovenia not Hungary. Broad, spicy and pretty on the palate but convincingly tense with clean, fresh fruit. Tart on the finish but none the worse for it. 13%«

September 2011 Oz Clarke, 250 best Wines Wine buying guide 2011, Verus 2008 Riesling

»Slovenia is qietly creeping into our wine conciousness and could become a significant player for elegant, cool-climate whites in a few years time. This Riesling shows why.«

July 2010 Neal Martin, eRobertParker.com: Wines of Slovenia Trade & Press tasting: Slovenia - Quickest out of the Bloc

2009 Verus Vineyards Furmint – »This pure Furmint undergoes 15 month ageing in French barriques with constant lees stirring. It has a very well-defined bouquet with Kaffir lime and white flowers, echoes of wild nettle developing with time. The palate has a ripe entry with nuanced lemon curd and honeyed tones, orange zest and fresh apricot, leading to a poised finish. This is delicious and the oak works very well, never dominating the character of the wine. »

2009 Verus Vineyards Riesling »With 6-7 grams residual, this Riesling has a grassy nose with touches of dried honey and spice, perhaps more New World in aromatic profile than Germanic. The palate has a rounded texture with touches of toffee apple, orange peel and apricot on the the well defined, quite tense finish. This is excellent.«

2009 Verus Vineyards Sauvignon: »A neutral, stony nose: taut and well defined with limestone notes developing with aeration. The palate has fine acidity, quite nuanced with a well-balanced, Marlborough-like finish. Fine.«

2009 Verus Vineyards Pinot Gris: »Tasted at the Wines of Slovenia Trade & Press tasting. A well-defined, stony, quite minerally bouquet. The palate has a ripe entry, lightly honeyed with touches of lemongrass that leads to a ‘prickly’ finish. Fine.«

December 2009 Decanter, Wine of the month – Verus Sauvig blanc 2008

»Slovenian Savignon Blanc now has a benchmark. Ticking all the necessary boxes, adding interest is a sprinkling of dried herbs and a pinch of white pepper. Flavours are largely tropical in nature, complemented by green apples and underscored by strong mineral notes. Very refreshing.«

November 2009 Decanter, Wine of the month - Verus Furmint 2008

»Forget your caffeine or energy-drink fix - if you're in search of a pick-me-up wine with great vitality and life, look no further. From an outfit barely two years old in Slovenia, this is a supremely tasty, sweetly fruited Furmint, with citrus zing and freshly picked apple notes from start to finish.«

November 2009 Jancis Robinson, Financial Times, 28.11.2009 Verus Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2008

»Lovely clean fruit – so pure and bumptious and attention grabbing! Like an explosion of ripe berries in the mouth. Great balance and zip. Talk about a summer wine.«
